19thC French Double Powder Compact MOP Painted Portrait


Beautiful Antqiue 19thC French Powder Compact.

Gild metal with floral embossed walls & patterned base.


The lid mounted with a beautiful hand painted portrait on Mother of Pearl of a demure lady with a blue headband. The portrait is set under domed glass surrounded by a gilt bezel that was one enamelled. 


Two Powder compartments. The first under the hinged lid which opens with a small catch, Mirror inset into the lid with a thin gilt rope twist frame.


The bottom hinged powder compartment opens using a small slit between the top & bottom. (can be fiddly). Mirror set into the base of the top section with a gilt rope twist frame.

1.7cm deep appx


Age related wear and tear as to be expected. Small fissure to the pearl located on the ladies shoulder. Wear/tarnishing and loss to the gilding on the bezel and as you can see lacking the enamel fill to the beads. 

Wear to the green band. Both hinges & clasp are good. Top mirror with heavy freckling and lower mirror with a light freckling. Slight indent to the base.
